CLEVELAND -- White Sox third baseman Colson Montgomery was removed from their Wednesday afternoon game against the Guardians after being hit by a pitch on his left wrist.
Montgomery, who bats left-handed, was struck just above the joint by a 95.1 mph sinker from Cleveland starter Parker Messick in the fourth inning. Play was delayed briefly while he was examined by a trainer before running to first base.
After playing the field in the bottom of the inning, Montgomery exited before the Guardians batted in the fifth. The 24-year-old had X-rays taken at the ballpark, which were negative, and he is listed as day to day.
Montgomery went 0-for-1 before leaving, extending his slump to 10 games. He is batting .033 with 18 strikeouts in 30 at-bats during the timeframe.
