HOUSTON -- Colt Keith, who on Monday became the second-youngest Tiger to produce a three-homer game, was a late scratch Tuesday against the Astros because of soreness in his right wrist.
Keith had been slated to bat sixth as Tuesday’s designated hitter against right-hander Hunter Brown, making his return from the injured list. Keith is 3-for-7, including a double, in his career against Brown.
In Monday’s 9-3 win over the Astros, Keith, 24, had a career-high six RBIs. The only other Tiger to hit three home runs in a game before turning 25 was Hall of Famer Al Kaline, who at age 20 hit three home runs against the Kansas City Athletics on April 17, 1955.
Kerry Carpenter, who was playing right field in Tuesday’s original lineup, switched to DH. Wenceel Pérez took Keith’s six-hole spot and replaced Carpenter in right.
