Rockies closer Greg Holland and Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas are MLB's Comeback Players of the Year for 2017.
Holland was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year on Friday, and Moustakas took home the award in the American League.
Both players bounced back from major injuries and had All-Star seasons in 2017. Holland missed all of '16 recovering from Tommy John surgery, then tied for the NL lead with 41 saves this season. Moustakas played just 27 games in '16 after tearing his ACL in an outfield collision with teammate Alex Gordon, then set a Royals franchise record with 38 home runs in '17.

"I just wanted to get back on the field," Moustakas said Friday on MLB Network. "I worked a lot with the trainers in Kansas City and my rehab guy in Florida getting me ready to play another full season of baseball. Those guys in Kansas City did a phenomenal job preparing me, and I can't thank them enough. I just wanted to get out there and play ball again with the boys, and they helped me do that."

Moustakas' 38 home runs were far and away a career best -- surpassing his previous high of 22 in 2015 -- as were his 85 RBIs. His 38 homers tied for fifth in the AL and eighth in the Major Leagues. The 29-year-old also made his second career All-Star team.
Moustakas and Holland are both their franchise's first player to be named an MLB Comeback Player of the Year.

Holland's efforts as the Rockies' closer helped the team make its first postseason since 2009. He finished the year with a 3.61 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old finished a Major League-high 58 games, including the 41 saves, which tied the Colorado franchise record. Holland earned his third career All-Star nod and had his third career 40-save season.

Holland and Moustakas are former teammates, having played five seasons together in Kansas City before Holland signed with Colorado prior to the 2017 season. They were both members of the Royals teams that won back-to-back AL pennants in '14 and '15 and won the World Series in '15.

MLB's Comeback Players of the Year are selected by the 30 MLB.com beat reporters from a list of 30 candidates, one from each team. Last year's Comeback Players of the Year were Anthony Rendon in the NL and Rick Porcello in the AL.
