October 1st, 2018

Oakland Athletics closer Blake Treinen has been voted September's American League Reliever of the Month Presented by The Hartford, and Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Corey Knebel has been voted the National League Reliever of the Month Presented by The Hartford for the sixth period of the 2018 season.
Knebel appeared in 15 games for the Brewers, recording 32 strikeouts while not allowing a run during his strong month on the mound. Across 15.1 innings pitched, Corey permitted just five hits, three walks and did not surrender a home run to claim his second career monthly award (also August 2017). This is Milwaukee's second Reliever of the Month Award this season, following Josh Hader's honor in April. Knebel, who was acquired from the Texas Rangers in January 2015, entered today's NL Central Tiebreaker game having recorded a strikeout in each of his last 13 appearances. During that time, the 26-year-old has logged 30 punchouts and just three walks. Additionally, the hard-throwing right-hander entered today's game with a streak of six straight games in which he logged at least two punchouts and did not appear for more than 1.0 inning, matching Derrick Turnbow (April 8-19, 2007) for the longest such streak by a reliever in franchise history. Overall, the Texas native is on pace to become just the second pitcher in Major League history to tally 32or-more strikeouts while not surrendering a run in a single calendar month, joining Orel Hershiser, who accomplished the feat during his historic run in September 1988.
Others receiving votes for NL Reliever of the Month included Corey's bullpen-mates Corbin Burnes (4-0, 1.93 ERA, 14.0 IP, 11 SO) and Jeremy Jeffress (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 10 G, 7 SV); Jesse Chavez (13 G, 1.32 ERA, 2 SV, 13 SO) of the Chicago Cubs; Wade Davis (1-0, 0.82 ERA, 7 SV, 16 SO) of the Colorado Rockies; and Kirby Yates (1-0, 1.74 ERA, 10.1 IP, 18 SO) of the San Diego Padres.
The American League Reliever of the Month presented by The Hartford, Blake Treinen, and the National League Reliever of the Month presented by The Hartford, Corey Knebel, will each receive a specially designed plaque, suitably engraved, for their accomplishments. The Hartford, the Official Business Insurance & Employee Benefits Sponsor of MLB, has presented baseball's annual Relievers of the Year Awards since 2015. The Hartford Presents the 2018 Relievers of the Year, named in honor of Mariano Rivera (American League) and Trevor Hoffman (National League), will again be presented during the World Series.
