Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager had arthroscopic surgery on his left hip on Tuesday, and he's expected to resume baseball activities in January. The procedure was performed in New York by Dr. Bryan Kelly.
Seager, a two-time All-Star at age 24, has already been sidelined for several months since undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery in early May. The additional surgery should not affect Seager's recovery timeline, as the Tommy John surgery was already likely to keep him out of action until late in the offseason.
Before his season-ending elbow surgery, Seager had also missed some action with soreness and tightness in his hip flexor. It is unknown if this surgery is related to that issue.
Prior to his injury, Seager had led all shortstops with 13.3 wins above replacement, per Fangraphs, since his first full season in 2016. At the time, he ranked fifth among all position players in that period behind only Michael Trout, Mookie Betts, Jose Altuve and Kristopher Bryant.
In parts of four Major League seasons, Seager is hitting .302/.372/.494 with 54 homers and 179 RBIs, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award and finishing third in MVP voting in 2016.
