BALTIMORE -- A scary moment occurred during the fifth inning of Monday night’s Diamondbacks-Orioles game at Camden Yards when Baltimore manager Craig Albernaz was hit in the head by a foul ball while in the first-base dugout.

Orioles second baseman Jeremiah Jackson was at the plate facing D-backs right-hander Ryne Nelson when Jackson hit a 70.6 mph liner into the O’s dugout. Albernaz was struck in the head, then quickly got escorted down into the tunnel by several coaches and players.

Albernaz was evaluated on-site by Baltimore's medical staff. The team announced more information would be coming on his status after the game.

However, Albernaz was later seen back in the dugout. In the sixth, Jackson hit the first grand slam of his career to cut Arizona's lead to 7-6. Albernaz, who had a visible red mark on the right side of his face, hugged Jackson when he returned to the dugout.

Albernaz's wife, Genevieve, reacted to the manager's return to the dugout on social media:

Baltimore is playing its first season under Albernaz, who was hired as manager after spending the past two seasons as Cleveland’s associate manager/bench coach. This is the 43-year-old’s first time being an MLB skipper.
