PHILADELPHIA -- It’s back to work for Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez.
He will start Monday night’s series opener against the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park. Sánchez started for the National League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, allowing three runs in the first inning. However, Monday will mark his first start that counts since he allowed two runs across seven innings on July 11 in Detroit.
Sánchez enters the second half with another chance to win the NL Cy Young Award. He finished second last season to Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes. Sánchez is 11-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 20 starts this season. He leads MLB pitchers with 5.3 WAR, per Baseball Reference. He is second with 4.0 fWAR. Only Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski is better (4.4).
Misiorowski (10-4, 1.62 ERA) starts on Monday night against the Mets.
