Sánchez's focus on Monday's start vs. Royals, not All-Star Game

KANSAS CITY -- said he isn’t thinking about the All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park on July 14 because he is focusing on Monday afternoon’s start against the Royals and Saturday’s start in Detroit.

But Sánchez has a good chance to start the Midsummer Classic.

“We’ll wait and see,” Sánchez said Sunday, via team interpreter Diego D’Aniello.

Sánchez is 10-3 with a 2.00 ERA this season. He had a 50 2/3-innings scoreless streak from late April through early June, which is the fifth-longest single-season mark in Major League Baseball history since 1893. He leads all qualified MLB pitchers with a 5.7 bWAR, while he is tied with Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski with 4.3 fWAR.

Sánchez will be eligible to pitch in the All-Star Game, while Misiorowski will not pitch because he is scheduled to start the Brewers’ final game before the break on July 12.

Regardless, Sánchez said he’s excited to make his second All-Star team.

“It feels good,” he said. “I’m super excited and happy.”
