Cubs add right-handers Mazzoni, Carasiti

Martin outrighted to Triple-A; 40-man roster at 34

CHICAGO -- The Cubs continued to stock up on pitching on Monday by claiming right-hander off waivers from the Padres and selecting the contract of right-hander Matt Carasiti from Triple-A Iowa. They assigned outfielder outright to Triple-A.
With the moves, the Cubs' 40-man roster is now at 34.
On Friday, the Cubs claimed lefty reliever off waivers from the Twins.
Mazzoni, 28, spent most of last season in the Minor Leagues, giving up two earned runs over 30 1/3 innings in 23 relief appearances. He struck out 48 and walked three. In six relief appearances with the Padres, he surrendered 16 runs (12 earned) over eight innings.
In 116 Minor League appearances between the Mets' and the Padres' systems, Mazzoni has gone 27-15 with seven saves and a 3.79 ERA.
Carasiti, 26, acquired by the Cubs from the Rockies for in June, spent this past season between Triple-A Albuquerque and Iowa. He combined to go 1-3 with 21 saves and a 3.26 ERA in 46 relief outings, striking out 68 over 49 2/3 innings.

Martín, 29, acquired by the Cubs from the Mariners in August, batted .154 (2-for-13) with one double and one RBI in 15 games with Chicago.
