Status: Exited Japan’s WBC quarterfinal loss to Venezuela in the first inning due to “right knee discomfort.” Rejoined the Cubs on March 16 and was set to have an MRI to gather more info on his injury. (updated March 16) More >>
LHP Jordan Wicks
Injury: Left forearm (radial nerve irritation)
Expected return: April
Status: Resumed playing catch on March 3 after pausing his throwing program for 10 days. Threw off a mound on March 16, but expected to open the season on the IL. (updated March 16)
LHP Justin Steele
Injury: Left elbow
Expected return: First half of 2026
Status: Medically cleared Feb. 28 by Dr. Keith Meister, who performed Steele's elbow surgery (left ulnar collateral ligament revision repair) on April 18, 2025. Threw 19 pitches in a live BP session on March 13. (updated March 13)
RHP Porter Hodge
Injury: Right flexor strain
Expected return: April
Status: Manager Craig Counsell noted on March 8 that Hodge will be shut down from throwing for a couple weeks before being re-evaluated. The righty is expected to open the season on the IL. (updated March 8)
RHP Shelby Miller
Injury: Right elbow surgery
IL date: March 1 (60-day IL)
Expected return: 2027
Status: Underwent surgery to repair a torn right UCL and flexor tendon last October. Signed a two-year deal with Chicago on Feb. 16 with an eye toward contributing in 2027. (updated March 2) More >>

Injury: Right knee
Expected return: TBD
Status: Underwent a right patellar tendon debridement on Feb. 24. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Austin could miss "months" while recovering. (updated Feb. 25) More >>
