MESA, Ariz. -- Last year's World Series championship was Joe Maddon's second, and this will be the third time he'll get a ring. What will he do with the new jewelry? Don't expect to see Maddon flashing it around Chicago.
"I don't wear that," Maddon said Monday. "I gave [my] 2002 [ring] to my mom [Beanie]. She has it. [Wife] Jaye has 2008. So, 2016, I don't know -- my inclination, I'll talk to Jaye about it [to see] if she wants to hold onto it or if she wants to give it to my mom."

Maddon was on the Angels' coaching staff in '02 when they beat the Giants in seven games, and he guided the Rays to the '08 World Series, only to lose to the Phillies in five games. Last year, the Cubs beat the Indians in seven games for their first World Series title since 1908. Maddon doesn't need to wear a ring to commemorate that.
"The thought is mine," he said. "It's about doing what you've done for a long time, and you get out there and it works and you know you're part of the championship group. I'm really satisfied with the thought.
"I do prefer sharing things," he said. "As long as my mom is still here, I'd rather Beanie enjoy it."
His mother retired last year from her job at the Third Base Luncheonette in Hazleton, Pa. She probably doesn't wear the '02 ring around town either.
The Cubs will receive their '16 rings on April 12 prior to their game against the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.
