CHICAGO -- Brandon Hyde will return to the Cubs' dugout in 2018, switching from first-base coach to manager Joe Maddon's bench coach.
Hyde, 44, joined the Cubs' organization in 2012 as the Minor League field coordinator and was added to the big league coaching staff as the bench coach for manager Rick Renteria in 2014. In '15, Maddon took over as Cubs manager and added Dave Martinez as bench coach and Hyde was reassigned to first-base coach.
The Cubs confirmed on Thursday that Hyde was staying after several teams, including the Mets, expressed an interest in him. Martinez is now the Nationals' manager. 
The Cubs were expected to announce the rest of the 2018 coaching staff soon. Jim Hickey will take over as pitching coach, but that has not been officially announced by the team. Chili Davis has been named the new hitting coach, with Andy Haines as the assistant hitting coach and Brian Butterfield the new third-base coach.
