D-backs acquire Travis Bergen from Blue Jays for Robbie Ray and cash considerations

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired LHP Travis Bergen (@TBergen_) from the Blue Jays for LHP Robbie Ray and cash considerations.

Bergen, 26, has played parts of the last 2 seasons in the Majors with the Giants (2019) and Blue Jays (2020). In 22 relief appearances, he is 2-0 with a 5.06 ERA (12 ER in 21.1 IP), .238 opponent average and 21 strikeouts.

Last season with the Giants, he held opponents scoreless in 16 of 21 appearances and limited lefties to a .192 average (5-for-26) with 4 strikeouts.

In 2018, he earned the following honors: Baseball America Double-A All-Star, MiLB.com Organization All-Star for the Blue Jays and a Florida State League midseason All-Star. In 43 relief appearances between Single-A Advanced Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire, he went 4-2 with a 0.95 ERA (6 ER in 56.2 IP), .200 opponent average, 1.01 WHIP and 74 strikeouts (11.75 K/9.0 IP).

The Giants' selected him in the Rule 5 Draft from the Blue Jays on Dec. 13, 2018. He played most of the 2019 season for the Giants (21 G) and Triple-A Sacramento (15 G) prior to being returned to the Blue Jays on Aug. 21, 2019.

He had Tommy John surgery in 2016 and missed most of the 2016-17 seasons.

He was the Blue Jays' seventh-round pick in the 2015 draft out of Kennesaw State University.

Ray, 28, spent 6 seasons with the D-backs (2015-20) and went 47-46 with a 4.11 ERA (362 ER in 793.0 IP), .236 opponent average and 998 strikeouts.
