SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Chris Owings played the outfield for the first time Tuesday, coming in as a replacement for David Peralta in right field and catching the one ball that was hit his way.
Owings had not played outfield in his professional career before appearing in 49 games in center for the D-backs last year. Tuesday marked the first time he had ever played right field.
"It's going to be a little different getting used to some balls coming off righties' bats that are going to tail a little bit," Owings said after Arizona's 12-0 victory over Texas. "Other than that, I feel like I'm doing good out there and I think I'm going to start playing out there a little more consistently. It was a good start today and just try to get more comfortable out there."
Owings is still in the hunt for the starting shortstop job, but D-backs manager Torey Lovullo wants to get him outfield reps to expand the options for getting Owings' bat in the lineup.
Gem for Corbin
Left-hander Patrick Corbin continues to impress as he tossed five shutout innings Tuesday, allowing just one hit.

"I feel like every time I'm out there my arm just feels better and better," Corbin said. "It feels like it's coming out easy and I'm able to hit my spots. My changeup has been a pretty good pitch for me the last couple of times."
Corbin threw 56 pitches -- 46 for strikes -- and said he felt strong enough at the end of his outing that he could have pitched the sixth if needed.
"My offspeed seems to be there for strikes when I need it," Corbin said. "So [I will] just keep building on that."
