Ziegler posts scoreless inning in spring debut

Closer induces three groundouts, gives up one hit

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- D-backs closer Brad Ziegler saw his first action of the spring as he worked a scoreless fifth inning against the Royals in the D-backs' 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The D-backs are bringing Ziegler along slowly this spring, because he found that last year when he made fewer appearances while coming back from knee surgery that he was able to stay strong throughout the entire season.

Ziegler, who was 30-for-32 in save situations last year, faced four batters and got three to ground out, and the one base hit was a grounder back up the middle.
"Just was trying to really work on my sinker with a hitter in there," Ziegler said. "Just kind of see how they're reacting to it and what adjustments I need to make. I got ground balls and even some of the fouls balls were off their foot or up the third-base line, so that's a good sign that the ball is moving pretty good."
