Greinke among several D-backs on the mend

Peralta, Owings beginning rehab stints Saturday; Pollock could return this season

PHOENIX -- In the first half, the D-backs' disabled list grew, as key players continued to get injured. Now in the second half, they'll start to get some of them back.
Arizona manager Chip Hale rattled off a long list of injury updates before Friday's 13-7 loss to the Dodgers, showing just how health has affected his club over the past month. However, he won't use that as the reason for the club coming out of the All-Star break in last place in the National League West, 14 games under .500.
"That's an excuse," Hale said. "We talked about in Spring Training how many guys it's going to take to be a championship-style team. That's why we have 60 guys in spring and we expect them all, whether they come up from A-ball, Double-A, or Triple-A, they have to be ready to contribute at this level."
Ace (left oblique strain) threw from 60 feet during the team's workout at Chase Field on Thursday. He was scheduled to throw from the same distance Friday before progressing to longer distances. Hale wouldn't put a timetable on Greinke's return or whether he would go on a Minor League rehab stint.
Outfielder (lower back strain) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Mobile on Saturday. Hale said he may need seven to 10 games before he is ready to return to the Majors.

Outfielder/infielder (plantar fasciitis) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Saturday. Like Peralta, Hale said he may need seven to 10 games before being ready to return. Owings played center field during an Arizona Rookie League game Thursday and said he felt good defensively, which had been his biggest concern.
Outfielder (fractured right toe) is a week behind Peralta and Owings, Hale said. Starter (right elbow inflammation) will start throwing bullpen sessions next week. Reliever (left shoulder tendinitis) threw and played catch on Thursday and Hale said the pitcher felt great.
"They're all on track, it's just a matter of when they're going to be ready," Hale said.
Outfielder missed the first half with a fractured right elbow. He is now throwing and hitting balls off a tee and could return before the end of the season.
"I talked to him [Thursday] during batting practice out here and he's shocked how good he feels," Hale said. "So much better than even before the surgery."
