PHOENIX -- The D-backs' offense, which had been quiet during their three-game losing streak, broke out Wednesday night, pounding out 11 hits in a 7-1 win over the Tigers at Chase Field.
"We had some guys step up tonight on a night when things haven't been going so good," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. "It was nice to see. It was a good effort all the way around."
Nick Ahmed, Yasmany Tomas and Brandon Drury all homered for the D-backs in support of Zack Godley, who was called up from Triple-A Reno to make the start. Godley (1-0) allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings.

"[Godley] had a curveball in the 84-85-mph range that was awfully tough to hit, with a good fastball to go with it," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "It just gave us trouble. He pitched well, and he had good stuff. Sometimes you're going to face good pitching. We did tonight. And you have to tip your cap to him."

The Tigers, who have dropped three of their last four games, scored their only run in the second inning on an RBI single by James McCann. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd (2-3) took the loss.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Missed chance: The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but they had a chance to do more damage and possibly break the game open. With one out, a run in and men on first and second, Godley got Jose Iglesias to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. The Tigers didn't move a runner into scoring position the rest of the game.
"We hit a few balls hard," Ausmus said. "They made a couple of nice plays, but overall, we didn't do any damage tonight."

Cashing it in: On the other hand, the D-backs capitalized on a big scoring chance in the sixth, which was set up by Godley drawing a two-out walk against Boyd to load the bases. A.J. Pollock followed with a single through the hole at short to score a pair of runs, giving the D-backs some breathing room with a 4-1 lead.
"For me, the big blow was A.J.'s two-run single, which was a great at-bat," Lovullo said.

D-backs pitchers tied a Major League record (since 1913) with their ninth consecutive home game with 10 or more strikeouts. It ties the streak set by the Astros from April 20-May 9.
