D-backs option Ildemaro Vargas to Triple-A Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) optioned INF Ildemaro Vargas (ILL-de-mar-oh) to Triple-A Reno following yesterday's game. A corresponding move will be made tomorrow.
Vargas, 25, appeared in 2 games in his first stint in the Major Leagues, making his debut on June 29 as a defensive replacement. He was hitless in 2 at bats.
Vargas was named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team for the Triple-A All-Star Game and at the time of his promotion ranked among Triple-A leaders in doubles (1st, 24), runs (1st, 64), and hits (4th, 97). Over 3 seasons in the D-backs' organization, he has 365 hits and 95 walks with only 82 strikeouts. He debuted after spending 10 seasons in the Minors (since 2008), appearing in 738 games with 2,734 at-bats. The native of Venezuela is in his third season in the D-backs' organization having signed as a Minor League free agent on May 26, 2015, out of the Independent League, having played for the Atlantic League's Bridgeport Bluefish.
In 74 games with the Aces, he is hitting .303 (97-for-320) with 24 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 43 RBI, 64 runs scored, 16 walks and 7 stolen bases. Defensively, he has a .981 fielding percentage with only 6 errors in 320 total chances at second base (58 games), shortstop (4 games), third base (4 games) and outfield (8 games). Against lefties, he is hitting .368 (25-for-68). With runners on base, he's hitting .355 (44-for-124) with 9 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homers and 40 RBI. 
He originally signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a non-drafted free agent on June 26, 2008.
