The ranking of baseball's top prospects is done by MLBPipeline.com Draft and prospect experts Jonathan MayoJim Callis and Mike Rosenbaum, who compile input from industry sources, including scouts and scouting directors. It is based on analysis of players' skill sets, upsides, proximity to the Majors and potential immediate impact to their teams. Only players with rookie status are eligible for the list. Players who were at least 23 years old when they signed and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.

Smith entered Tuesday hitting .359/.431/.456 with eight doubles and 11 RBIs in 26 games for Class A Hillsboro this season. He is the sixth-highest ranked prospect from the 2017 Draft; Cincinnati's Hunter Greene is the top ranked 2017 selection at No. 21.

Jon Duplantier, a 23 year-old right-handed pitcher who was taken by the D-backs in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Rice University, was one of the biggest risers on Arizona's Top 30 prospects list.

Duplantier, who pitched in the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, jumped from the No. 8 spot to No. 2.
