CHICAGO -- The death of boxing legend Muhammad Ali was met with sadness in the D-backs' clubhouse.
Ali, who passed away late Friday night, lived in Scottsdale, Ariz., and in the early years of the D-backs franchise made several appearances at Chase Field.
"Sad," said D-backs manager Chip Hale. "I knew he was sick and in the hospital, but obviously his passing is tough. I think he won his first title the year I was born. So I saw him as a young child. Such a great fighter, and then all the things he did socially were unbelievable."

D-backs team president/CEO Derrick Hall tweeted, "May The Greatest rest in peace. What a man."
Former D-backs infielder Willie Bloomquist, who recently rejoined the organization as a special assistant to Hall, once got a chance to meet Ali.

"One of my favorite days ever at the ballpark was the day I met [the] greatest of all time #ripchamp," Bloomquist tweeted along with a photo of himself and Ali.
