D-backs opt to release injured outfielder Blanco

March 28th, 2017

The D-backs released outfielder , the club announced on Monday night. The move leaves the total players in Arizona's camp at 32.
Blanco, 33, signed a Minor League deal in January. Blanco batted .225/.295/.400 (9-for-40) through 14 Cactus League contests, but he hadn't appeared in a spring game since March 21 due to an oblique injury.
Although Blanco won't be on the D-backs' Opening Day roster, The Arizona Republic reported on Monday evening that the club is interested in re-signing him when healthy.
The veteran outfielder is entering his ninth year in the Majors. Blanco spent the last five seasons with the Giants -- hitting .224 with one home run and 18 RBIs in 106 games for San Francisco in 2016.
