Fifth-rounder Rose among D-backs' signings

Arizona signs 31 of 40 selections before deadline, including Owings' brother Chris

PHOENIX -- The D-backs signed five more of their selections from the 2016 Draft before Friday's 2 p.m. MST deadline. They signed 31 of their 40 picks.
Fifth-round pick Joey Rose, an infielder from Toms River (N.J.) High School North, and 10th-round pick Stephen Smith, an outfielder from Texas Tech University, were the two highest selections to sign Friday.
The D-backs also signed 34th-round pick Connor Owings on Friday. Owings is an infielder from Coastal Carolina University, the winner of the College World Series, and his older brother, Chris, is on the D-backs.
Arizona signed each of its first 17 selections, 19 of its first 20 and 25 of its first 27.
