McFarland, who had pitched all four of his Major League seasons for the Orioles, was designated for assignment and subsequently released after Baltimore acquired Vidal Nuno in late February.

The 27-year-old made 16 relief appearances for the O's in 2016, posting a 6.93 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. He was forced to miss time due to a left knee injury.

McFarland has a 4.27 career ERA in 121 games over his four seasons in the big leagues.
