MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins activated outfielder Danny Santana from the 15-day disabled list after Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees, and designated fellow outfielder Oswaldo Arcia for assignment.
It was a somewhat surprising move considering Arcia's power potential, but he's been inconsistent this year, hitting .214/.289/.369 with four homers and 12 RBIs in 32 games. He's also struck out in 46 of his 114 plate appearances, and hadn't played much recently, making three starts in June. But Arcia, 25, is two years removed from hitting 20 homers in 103 games in 2014, so he could be lost on waivers or traded within the 10-day period.
"[Arcia has] been here a long time, and I'm not sure how that will end up," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "We'll see if there's any interest out there from other clubs. It's been kind of an up-and-down adventure. He's been part of our organization a long time, working his way through the Minor Leagues to get here. He's had his moments, but looking at our 25-man roster, we needed more versatility."

Santana, on the DL since May 30 with a left hamstring strain, made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Rochester, going 4-for-11 with two runs scored and a stolen base. He has experience in both the infield and the outfield, and can serve as a backup outfielder to Robbie Grossman, Byron Buxton and Max Kepler. The Twins could've optioned Buxton or Kepler instead of designating Arcia, but they want the two former top prospects to get regular playing time in the Majors.
Santana, 25, was hitting .258/.290/.347 with a homer, six doubles, 10 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 35 games with the Twins before the injury. It was the second time he was placed on the DL with a strained left hamstring.
