PHILADELPHIA -- Dave Dombrowski assembled the roster that got the Phillies within two victories of winning the World Series.

He just got more time to finish the job.

The Phillies announced on Tuesday morning that they have extended Dombrowski’s contract for three years, taking him through the 2027 season. Philadelphia hired the 66-year-old Dombrowski in December 2020.

“We are extremely pleased that Dave has agreed to continue to lead our baseball operations department through the 2027 season,” managing partner John Middleton said in a statement. “His astute knowledge of the game and keen eye for talent set us on a path to win the National League pennant. I firmly believe that under his stewardship, we will reach our ultimate goal.”

The Phillies not only made the postseason this year for the first time since 2011, they won their first National League pennant since 2009. They took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven World Series but lost the final three games to Houston.

Dombrowski is the only head of baseball operations to lead four organizations to the World Series, and one of only five general managers to win a World Series title with two teams. He headed baseball ops for the Expos (1988-91), Marlins (1991-2001), Tigers (2001-15) and Red Sox (2015-19); the 1997 Marlins and 2018 Red Sox won the World Series. Detroit won the American League pennant in 2006 and 2012.
