PITTSBURGH -- Dodgers manager Dave Roberts painted a more upbeat picture of Hyun-Jin Ryu's Thursday night rehab start for Oklahoma City than did the box score.
"I heard the velocity got to 90," said Roberts. "He gave up a couple home runs, but he felt good coming out of it. The command needs to be cleaned up obviously and get better, but for us, it's how it comes out. Four days and he'll go again."
Ryu, who hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2014 because of shoulder surgery, allowed eight runs (five earned) in four innings, but was expected to pitch five innings.
Roberts left open the possibility that Ryu could rejoin the Dodgers rotation before the All-Star break. He said the same for Brandon McCarthy, who is returning from last year's Tommy John surgery.
"We're pretty encouraged," Roberts said.
