LOS ANGELES -- Two legends in their final season became well-acquainted before Sunday's series finale between the Red Sox and Dodgers. Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz went to the broadcast booth about an hour before first pitch to visit Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully and chat for a few minutes. Scully honored Ortiz on Friday when he narrated a video tribute to the slugger. The Red Sox then returned the favor on Saturday, presenting Scully with a framed picture of him throwing out the first pitch at Fenway Park and a program from a 1949 football game between Boston University and Maryland at Fenway that proved to be Scully's big break.
Infielder Travis Shaw, whose father, Jeff, played for the Dodgers from 1998-2001, also joined Ortiz in the booth. Shaw fondly remembers spending summers at Dodger Stadium and listening to Scully.
Red Sox manager John Farrell has met Scully and knows the impact he's had on baseball. "When we go to play the Angels, and the Dodgers are on, I make a point of turning the television on just to listen to the broadcast," Farrell said.
