D-backs hope Peralta's season isn't over

August 27th, 2019

SAN FRANCISCO -- D-backs manager Torey Lovullo had to confront a notion he would have preferred to avoid: That left fielder 's shoulder inflammation may have sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Another round of examinations Monday confirmed the diagnosis on Peralta, a key offensive figure who has been limited to 99 games this season and hasn't played since last Friday.

Asked Monday whether he believed Peralta might have played his last baseball in 2019, Lovullo said, "Man, that's a hard question to answer. ... I don't know. I hope not."

Lovullo indicated that Peralta has yet to settle upon a course of action for his injury.

"He, the doctors and other people inside of his inner circle, they're going to figure out what the next steps are and move forward," Lovullo said.

Peralta, 32, has slashed .275/.343/.461 with 12 home runs and 57 RBIs this season. Healthy last year, he slashed .293/.352/.516 with 30 homers and 87 RBIs. That was enough to earn him a Silver Slugger Award.
