Red Sox pitcher David Price and his foundation, Project One Four, will today break ground on a new "Miracle Field" in his hometown of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Miracle Fields are rubberized baseball fields designed for children and young adults with special needs.
Price will be present at today's groundbreaking, which is scheduled to take place at noon central time. The field will be built on the corner of Memorial Boulevard and Dejarnette Lane in McKnight Park where Price played his first baseball games as a child.
In addition to the rubberized baseball diamond, whose cushioned surface allows children in wheelchairs and walkers to better maneuver and participate in the game, the new outdoor complex will include a practice field, a plaza, and a Boundless Playground designed to eliminate barriers for children with disabilities.
The Murfreesboro Miracle Field is the second to be funded by Price and his foundation. A similar field was also supported by Project One Four in Tampa, Florida, during his time with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Project One Four was founded in 2008 by Price who began the charitable organization to support the growth and well-being of youth. The non-profit focuses its efforts in the Middle Tennessee area.
