CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Red Sox left-hander David Price, continuing his recovery from elbow soreness, had an abbreviated throwing session on Sunday for the second consecutive day at the team's training facility in Fort Myers.
Manager John Farrell said the 2013 American League Cy Young Award winner again threw 25 times in the batting cage and could throw again Monday for the third time since departing camp to meet with noted orthopedic surgeons Dr. James Andrews and Dr. Neal ElAttrache,about the flare-up.
"He performed today what he did [Saturday], so that was a repeat -- the 25 throws in the cage," Farrell said before Boston's 6-5 loss to the Phillies at Spectrum Field.
"Tomorrow will be a conversation when he comes in and goes through his treatment, whether or not he'll do it a third consecutive day or wait and build in a day of recovery from throwing."
No timetable has been set for Price's return to Grapefruit League action. The five-time All-Star is entering the second year of a seven-year, $217 million contract after going 17-9 with a 3.99 ERA during his first season with the Red Sox in '16.
Worth noting 
• Farrell said starter Rick Porcello's bullpen session was completed without limitation on Saturday. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, who was struck on his pitching thumb by Yoenis Cespedes' line drive in an 8-7 loss to the Mets on Wednesday, will throw a simulated game on Monday.
"All went good [Saturday] with the bullpen that he threw," Farrell said. "Full strength in his thumb, so he'll have those four innings back in Fort Myers tomorrow."
• Right-hander Tyler Thornburg, working to strengthen his shoulder, continued to progress in his throwing program, playing long toss from 120 feet on flat ground. A date has not officially been set for Thornburg to throw off a mound, but Farrell noted that he is "getting closer."
• Closer Craig Kimbrel allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in his second outing of the spring.
The hard-throwing righty showed command of his pitches during his one inning of work, Farrell said, but couldn't seem to finish them.
"It wasn't the inning you draw up in your head," Kimbrel said. "You go out and you give up a bunch of hits and walk the lead-off guy. But overall, I'm just getting reps in and throwing some pitches."
