NEW YORK -- Didi Gregorius has delivered clutch hits when the Yankees need them most, and the standout shortstop now needs the fan base to step up as balloting nears conclusion in the American League Esurance All-Star Game Final Vote.
"It would be an honor for me to go at least one time in my career," Gregorius said. "I think I'd be happy with that. That's what I tell everybody, if I go put up numbers and I can go once, I'll be happy with that."

As the Twitter votes kick in, Gregorius continues to reside in third place behind Mike Moustakas of the Royals and Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox. Gregorius is ahead of the Rangers' Elvis Andrus and the Rays' Logan Morrison.

"It's pretty obvious from the numbers that he's putting up and the type of player that he is how huge he is to our team," Aaron Judge said. "I think he's an All-Star in every form, on and off the field. Great guy. Great competitor. Great teammate. And he puts up the numbers. So vote for Sir Didi."

Off the field, indeed. Gregorius spent his Thursday morning and afternoon drumming up support throughout Manhattan, offering passengers free rides on the subway, taking photos for tourists at Rockefeller Center and handing out umbrellas on Wall Street.
Until 4 p.m. ET today, fans can fill out unlimited ballots at http://www.yankees.com/vote or cast up to 35 ballots by texting "A3" to 89269. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, any Tweet that includes #SirDidi4Sure will count toward his vote total.
The Yanks have sweetened the pot by dangling an opportunity to sit in the right field "Judge's Chambers" on Sunday to fans who vote via text or online and post a screenshot with #SirDidi4Sure.

"I think Didi deserves to go," right-hander Luis Severino said. "If you look at the top five shortstops right now, Didi's going to be in it. He can hit, he can throw, he plays good defense."
Gregorius hopes to become the sixth Yankees All-Star heading to Miami, joining Dellin Betances, Starlin Castro, Judge, Gary Sanchez and Severino.
"If I get voted in, I'll be happy with that," Gregorius said. "If not, there's always next year or the year after that."
Fans can cast ballots for the 2017 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote on MLB.com, club sites and their mobile devices until 4 p.m. ET today. The winners, as chosen exclusively by online fan voting totals, will then be announced during "MLB Tonight" live on MLB Network and MLB.com at 6 p.m. Extensive coverage throughout the Final Vote will be provided by MLB Network and MLB.com, including interviews with the candidates, frequent updates, heat maps indicating where votes are being cast for each candidate, news on player and club campaigns, and a running countdown clock leading up to the announcement.
Now in its 16th season, with more than 680 million votes cast, the Final Vote again will include social votes on the last day of balloting, as Twitter support for the 10 candidates over the final six hours of balloting will count toward their vote totals.
