LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have reinstated designated hitter/pitcher Shohei Ohtani from the injured list and left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal from the bereavement list and optioned outfielder Josue De Paula and right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Ohtani, 32, has been out since September 8 with right biceps discomfort. He has appeared in 134 games, slashing .277/.380/.522 with 30 homers and 80 RBI. He made 14 starts this season, posting an 8-2 record with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts. The back-to-back reigning National League MVP has been with the Dodgers three seasons, recording 19.1 bWAR with 139 homers, 312 RBI and a .990 OPS in 447 games at the plate and a 9-3 record with a 2.17 ERA on the mound. He has been in the Majors nine seasons, slashing .281/.375/.575 with 310 homers and 749 RBI while going 47-22 with a 2.83 ERA and 765 strikeouts in 114 games on the mound.
Skubal, 29, has made nine starts for the Dodgers since being acquired from the Detroit Tigers and he is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 55 innings. On the season, he is 11-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 25 starts this season. The two-time Cy Young award winner has been in the Major Leagues seven seasons, posting a 65-44 record with a 3.04 ERA in 162 games (159 starts). He has 1,065 strikeouts in 918.1 innings while owning a 1.02 WHIP. He was drafted by the Tigers in the ninth round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Seattle.
De Paula, 21, appeared in 11 games for the Dodgers, batting .323 with one homer and seven RBI. Prior to joining the Dodgers, he was slashing .303/.401/.547 with 27 homers and 104 RBI in 124 games with Double-A Tulsa. He has played 462 minor league games across four levels, slashing .286/.404/.453 with 56 homers and 280 RBI. He signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent on January 15, 2022.
Hurt, 28, pitched two scoreless innings last night in the Dodgers 7-0 win. He is 4-1 with a 4.14 ERA this season and 58 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. He has been with the Dodgers three seasons, compiling a 3.64 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 54.1 innings and a 4-2 mark. The Southern California native was originally drafted by the Marlins in the fifth round of the 2020 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern California.
