The Dodgers added infielder Edwin Ríos and left-handed pitcher Alex Wood to the roster for their best-of-seven National League Championship Series that begins Monday against the Braves at Globe Life Field in Arlington at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on FOX.

To make room, the Dodgers removed infielder Gavin Lux and baserunning specialist Terrance Gore.

Ríos returns after missing the NL Division Series with a groin strain suffered during an off-day workout after the Wild Card Series against the Brewers.

He participated in a team workout on Sunday, and manager Dave Roberts said on Monday that he considered Ríos capable of pinch-hitting only at this point. But president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman added that Rios has improved significantly each day.

“The way he ran the bases yesterday," Friedman said. "He took some live at-bats, and the way he was able to fire on his backside really gave us more optimism about where he was and where he’ll be in the next few days."

Ríos gives the Dodgers a left-handed designated hitter and a backup to third baseman Justin Turner.

Wood, a former Brave from the University of Georgia, was added after Roberts said on Sunday that the club was considering an additional pitcher because of this year’s format, which has no off-days during the series and could stretch the pitching staff, especially in the rare blowout.

“The track record, the history of being in a postseason, pitching on a big stage,” Roberts said, explaining why Wood was the choice despite a 6.39 ERA in an injury-interrupted season. “And also, the pitch mix, preparing for these guys and how he matches up and gives us a couple innings of coverage.”

Gore, who appeared in only two regular-season games, was active but did not appear in either of the previous two series. Lux, who replaced Ríos for the NLDS, struck out in his only at-bat.
