Kershaw not ready to pitch off mound

Dodgers ace increases distance as he throws on flat ground

August 14th, 2016

LOS ANGELES -- was seen throwing off flat ground at Dodger Stadium on Sunday for the third day in a row, but he still remains several days away from pitching off a mound.
The ace was seen throwing from at least 100 feet, a longer distance than he threw from on Friday and Saturday. He told reporters that he had been throwing for a week as he walked off the field.
Kershaw was first reported to be throwing on Aug. 7, but it's unclear if he took a break between then and Friday. While throwing again is an obvious sign of progress, he is still targeting a return in September.
"Yesterday, said he feels good," manager Dave Roberts said. "I think Clayton's always going to be the aggressor and the training staff is obviously mindful of wanting to get back sooner than later. All I know is that he's progressing and we expect him back some time in September."
Roberts wouldn't say when Kershaw will make the next step, throwing off a mound, but he ruled out that it would happen within the next week. Kershaw also won't be joining the team on its road trip to Philadelphia and Cincinnati, opting to stay in Los Angeles to continue his rehab.
Injury updates
was out of the lineup again Sunday with a bruised right hand, but he likely won't need a DL stint and expects to start Tuesday vs. the Phillies. Turner sustained the injury on Thursday while hitting a ground ball in a 8-3 loss to the Pirates.
"Justin, a couple days ago, fastball in, got jammed in his right hand," Roberts said. "Swelling is considerably better than it was yesterday, but with the off-day tomorrow, it's a much better chance to get him in the lineup instead of trying to play him.
allowed three hits and two earned runs in an inning during a rehab appearance for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday. He is expected to throw another inning Tuesday, then join the Dodgers later in the week.
