Now that the stage is set for the 2025 World Series, it should come as no surprise to learn that the Los Angeles Dodgers are favored over the Toronto Blue Jays.
According to the updated odds at the BetMGM online sportsbook, the Dodgers are -220 to win the World Series entering Friday’s Game 1. That gives them an implied probability of 68.75% to defend their crown.
After defeating the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series, Los Angeles opened as a +400 favorite to go back to back when the market was released on Oct. 30. The Yankees are the last team to win multiple championships in a row, winning three straight between 1998 and 2000.
The Dodgers were the front-runners in this market for much of the year. They only briefly relinquished that title during the final week of the regular season, which is when the Philadelphia Phillies leaped to the top spot. The Dodgers reclaimed their status as favorites after advancing past the NL Wild Card Series.
For comparison, Los Angeles entered last year’s World Series matchup as a -130 favorite before earning a 4-1 series win. The Dodgers are the biggest series favorites ahead of the Fall Classic since the Houston Astros were -235 in 2019 before losing in seven games to the Washington Nationals.
Since then, four of the past five pre-Series favorites ultimately won the Fall Classic. The Dodgers had a -210 value in 2020, while the Astros were -200 in 2022.
The Blue Jays, who began as 60/1 long shots last October, are +180 to knock off the Dodgers. That gives them an implied probability of 35.71% to win their first World Series since 1993.
There are plenty of other ways to bet on the World Series at BetMGM, such as total games, series score, and stat leader markets. The World Series MVP odds market has also been available since the start of the postseason.
Los Angeles superstar Shohei Ohtani remains the betting favorite to win World Series MVP, trading at +165 for an implied probability of 37.74%. Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is +600 (14.29%) to claim the award. No other player is better than 10/1 in this market.
For Friday’s Game 1, Los Angeles is a -150 road favorite. The total is 7.5, while the Blue Jays are +125 to win at home.
First pitch is set for 8 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre on FOX.
