DENVER -- The Dodgers finished a historic regular season Sunday with a 6-3 win over the Rockies, the best record in baseball this year, the best in Los Angeles history and the third-best record in franchise history at 104-58.

The National League West champions for five consecutive seasons open the NL Division Series presented by T-Mobile on Friday at Dodger Stadium having compiled a slew of achievements, including the franchise's best record since Brooklyn won 105 games in 1953.

"Pretty fun season," said Chase Utley. "Now the real fun begins."
The Dodgers, who have home-field advantage throughout the postseason, are the first team with 104 wins since the 2004 Cardinals, who won 105. They went from a 21-game lead to a stretch losing 16 of 17, but finished winning 12 of 18.
"I think the troubles are over," declared manager Dave Roberts. "The quality of baseball is better and the best is yet to come. The guys are healthy. The right guys are trending in the right direction. Winning more than losing. Four days off and we'll be raring to go, and I expect us to play great baseball."
The Dodgers offense set franchise records with 221 home runs, 312 doubles and 553 extra-base hits. Cody Bellinger led the way with an NL rookie record 39 home runs despite spending the first month in the Minor Leagues. Bellinger -- who finished second in NL home runs to Giancarlo Stanton's 59 -- became the third rookie to lead the Dodgers in home runs, runs scored and RBIs, and the first since Mike Piazza in 1993.

Bellinger is a virtual lock to give the Dodgers an 18th Rookie of the Year, while Clayton Kershaw could win a fourth Cy Young Award after leading the league in wins and ERA despite missing five weeks with his second year of back injuries. Closer Kenley Jansen led MLB with a 1.32 ERA.
Justin Turner went 1-for-2 Sunday and finished the season with a .322 average, third in the league. Colorado's Charlie Blackmon, who went 1-for-2, won the batting title at .331 and Washington's Daniel Murphy edged Turner for second. No Dodger has won a batting title since Tommy Davis in 1963.
Turner is one of three key hitters who struggled recently. All three categories of his slash line have dropped by more than 110 points. Bellinger, despite a double and walk Sunday, has dropped nearly 40 points in OPS over the past two weeks. But Roberts was hopeful that a 3-for-3 finale for Corey Seager is the sign of a turnaround. Since his elbow issue arose Aug. 27, Seager is 17-for-83 (.204).

"To see Corey get untracked, it was great for all of us, even for his psyche," said Roberts.
Seager was pleased to end on a high note, but said he will be one of the hitters in Rich Hill's simulated game on an otherwise day off Monday, hoping to carry momentum into the postseason.
"Let's hope. Right?" he said. "That's what the next couple days will be about, getting at-bats, staying as much in the flow as possible. I'm going to come in and hit against Rich. Two ABs is not going to kill your body."
