Speedy Dodgers prospect lands awkwardly while trying to avoid bat dog

The Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Dodgers, had quite the start to their game on Monday against Northwest Arkansas, but an apparent freak injury quickly put a damper on things.

Tulsa scored seven runs in the first inning and seven more in the second, with the final tally coming in thanks to a single from Dodgers No. 1 prospect to drive in speedster . But George -- the club’s No. 13 prospect -- was making his way back to the first-base dugout when something unusual happened.

The Drillers’ bat dog shot out of the dugout on its way to the plate to collect De Paula’s lumber, causing George to leap to the side to avoid the pooch. When George came down, though, he was limping and favoring his left knee.

Initial tests were “not that optimistic” about the leg injury, a source told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic (subscription required). The Dodgers have not confirmed the report.

Any sort of leg injury for George would be a tough blow: The outfielder has elite speed, stealing an even 100 bases for High-A Great Lakes last season to become the fifth Minor Leaguer to reach that total since 2005. Through 43 games for Tulsa in 2026, George is batting .333 with 26 steals and an .814 OPS.
