LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw from the 60-day disabled list, giving the team 35 players on its active roster.
Kershaw, 28, who was placed on the disabled list on July 1 (retroactive to June 27) with a mild disc herniation, will make his first start tonight at Miami since June 26. In 16 starts this season, Kershaw has gone 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA (24 ER/121.0 IP) and limited the opposition to a .185 batting average. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, he led the Majors in WHIP (0.73), strikeouts (145), strikeout-to-walk ratio (16.11, 145 K/9 BB), innings pitched (121.0) and shutouts (3), while ranking among big league leaders in ERA (1.79, 2nd), wins (11, T-2nd), opponents' batting average (.185, 5th) and strikeout per nine innings (10.79, 5th). Kershaw made one rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on September 3, allowing just one hit in 3.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
To create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Carlos Frias from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. The Dodgers now have 28 players on the disabled list this year, surpassing the 2012 Boston Red Sox for the most by a team since 1987.
