LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the 60-day disabled list.
McCarthy, 32, will make his first big league start today since April 25, 2015 following his recovery from Tommy John surgery (April 30, 2015). He posted a 3-0 record with a 5.87 ERA in four starts with the Dodgers last year prior to his injury and went 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in four rehab starts, last appearing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 27 and pitching 5.0 innings (72 pitches).
To make room on the active roster, the Dodger optioned right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart to Triple-A Oklahoma City and to create room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Yaisel Sierra was outrighted. The Dodgers also outrighted right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen, who was designated for assignment on July 1, and released left-handed pitcher Ian Thomas from the roster.
