LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have reinstated infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman from the injured list and designated infielder Santiago Espinal for assignment.
Edman, 31, has missed all season recovering from right ankle surgery. He played in 14 rehab games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, batting .275 with a homer and three RBI. He enters his third season with Los Angeles and has played 134 games, slashing .229/.280/.392 with 19 homers and 69 RBI. The 2024 National League Championship Series MVP is entering his eighth Major League season with the St. Louis Cardinals (2019-24) and Dodgers (2024-) and has clubbed 72 homers and driven in 291 runs. He was a sixth-round selection by the Cardinals in the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
Espinal, 31, was designated for the second time this season by the club after playing in 36 games and batting .268 with three doubles, one homer and seven RBI. He played 114 games with the Reds last season, batting .243 with 16 RBI while playing six different positions on the field. He was an All-Star in 2022 for the Toronto Blue Jays, playing in a career-best 135 games and hitting .267 with seven homers and 51 RBI. In seven Major League seasons in Toronto (2020-23), Cincinnati (2024-25) and Los Angeles (2026), he has played in 614 games with a .261 batting average and 21 homers. He was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 10th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Miami Dade College.
