DETROIT -- The Dodgers didn't need to clear the spacious fences of Comerica Park to put on a show in Motown. Chris Taylor hit two of their six doubles, both for RBIs, in a four-hit game as Los Angeles outpaced the Tigers for an 8-5 win Friday night at Comerica Park.
The Dodgers moved 52 games over .500 with their 20th win in their last 23 games. The Tigers have lost 11 of their last 13 to fall 15 games under .500 for the first time since Sept. 24, 2008.
Dodger doubles accounted for more than half of the 10 hits off Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann (7-10) and four of the seven RBIs. Taylor laced a line drive into the left-field corner to score Adrian Gonzalez as part of a four-run second inning, then followed Joc Pederson's fourth-inning RBI double with one of his own.

"We do a lot of answering back," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "When they score in the first, we seem to, that next half-inning, respond with a run or two. Tonight we did that twice and we tacked on a couple more."

That was enough support for Dodgers starter and former Wolverine Rich Hill (9-4), who delivered five innings of three-run ball on University of Michigan night at Comerica Park to improve to 5-0 in his last eight starts. Justin Upton hit two solo homers and an RBI double to help keep the Tigers close, but Pedro Baez stranded the tying run at the plate in the eighth before Kenley Jansen did the same in the ninth by striking out Victor Martinez and James McCann.

"You like the effort," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said of their rally, "but you still want to win games."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Seager singles home two: The Tigers had the brief momentum of two first-inning runs before the Dodgers peppered Zimmermann with line drives in the second. The last of them was a Corey Seager two-out single to right, bringing in John Forsythe to pull the Dodgers in front for good as Taylor charged around third.

Gonzo returns with a snare: Though Gonzalez doubled and scored a run in his return from the disabled list, his bigger impact in his first game since June 11 was in the field. The Tigers had the potential tying run at the plate in the eighth as Ian Kinsler battled Baez for nine pitches, culminating in a sharp opposite-field line drive off a 99-mph fastball. Gonzalez reached up and caught it before it could find open ground in right field, ending one of Detroit's best rallies.
"Out of nowhere, I just happened to peel off and the ball was hit right at me," Gonzalez said. "It was one of those things where, if he would've hit that same ball on the first pitch, I wouldn't have been there. It just worked out."

I think that's fun for everyone to hear and it's a credit to these guys that we keep hearing these crazy statistics. Upton became one of three players to have hit multiple home runs off Jansen, joining Martin Prado (three) and former Tiger Cameron Maybin (two).

Dodgers:Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-6, 3.63 ERA) will start the second game of this three-game series Saturday at 1:05 p.m. PT. The Dodgers have won six of his past seven starts, in which Ryu has a 2.50 ERA. In one career start at Comerica, he allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Tigers:Michael Fulmer (10-10, 3.78) makes his second start back from the disabled list, hoping to rebound from five runs over five innings in defeat Monday at Texas. Game time is 4:05 p.m. ET.
