Puig benched again after showing up late

September 26th, 2017

LOS ANGELES -- Dave Roberts, for the third straight day, expressed disappointment in .
Puig was benched Sunday for a basestealing gaffe in which he said his ankle prevented him from sliding into second as he was caught stealing to end Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Giants. The right fielder did not receive treatment for his ankle the following day, Roberts said.
Puig made matters worse on Monday, showing up late to Dodger Stadium for an early batting practice session that he was notified about Sunday evening. Roberts said he had planned to start Puig in the Dodgers' series opener vs. the Padres, but Puig's tardiness changed his mind.

Roberts met with Puig before the Dodgers' 9-3 win and said after the game that Puig will return the lineup on Tuesday.
"Yasiel and I and his teammates are on the same page," Roberts said. "It's one of those things where you gotta be accountable for one another. We're all aligned, and our only focus is winning baseball games and winning a championship for the Dodgers."

Turner still being bothered by thumb
The Dodgers are still without All-Star third baseman , who has recovered from a stomach virus but is dealing with a sore thumb. Turner was plunked on the thumb vs. the Phillies on Thursday, and Roberts said it is still "point tender." Turner is available to pinch-hit, but Roberts said the Dodgers plan to "stay away" from using him.
Turner, who was announced as the 12th annual Roy Campanella Award winner on Monday, took live batting practice indoors and said he hopes to play in one of the last few games of the season.
"We're not out of the woods entirely," Roberts said about Turner's injury. "For him to take a regular batting practice and to feel good about it and then get him back in tomorrow, that's sort of our plan."
Worth noting
• Dodgers lefty played catch on Monday and will throw a bullpen session the next few days. Roberts hopes Ryu can start in their final series of the season vs. the Rockies. Ryu took a liner off his left arm on Sunday vs. the Giants and left the game in the third inning with a left forearm contusion.
