MILWAUKEE -- Domingo Santana joined Ryan Braun on the bench as a late scratch Thursday as nagging injuries continue to affect the Brewers' lineup in their series against the Cubs.
About 10 minutes prior to first pitch, the Brewers announced that right fielder Santana was taken out of the starting lineup with right shoulder soreness. Santana started only one of seven games on Milwaukee's last road trip dealing with the same issue.
Braun, batting .364 with a .429 on-base percentage and slugging .576, missed Wednesday night's 13-inning marathon with lower back problems and was not in the lineup for Thursday's matinee rubber match.
"We make [injury decisions] collectively, and you make those decisions, really, for the long term to try to get him in there full time as quickly as possible," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.
Alex Presley and Ramon Flores received the starts in left and right field, respectively.
Prior to the game, Counsell noted that Braun was "feeling better" and that he hoped to have the six-time All-Star back in the lineup this weekend when the Brewers take on the Mets in New York.
