MIAMI -- For a good cause, Marlins manager Don Mattingly has agreed to share his managerial seat with a fan at Marlins Park.

The Marlins have joined the Fanatics “All In” Challenge, which is supporting healthcare workers and those who have been on the frontline assisting people during the coronavirus pandemic.

On the Fanatics web site on Wednesday, Mattingly encouraged fans by video to make a pitch to become the Marlins’ “Manager of the Day” at Marlins Park.

“As we go through these unprecedented times, I’d like to thank all the healthcare workers, all the people on the frontlines, the people who are part of the supply chain, who are getting supplies to grocery stores and delivering food,” Mattingly said in the video. “The people all over the country [who are] helping out.”

In South Florida, the Marlins have been active in assisting the Miami area. Marlins Park has been used as a COVID-19 testing location, as well as part of a food distribution site for those in need.

“As part of that All In Challenge, you have a chance to become manager of the day,” Mattingly said. “With that, you get to do basically anything you want. … You help us make the lineup. You hang out with the boys. You eat in the food room. You can get on the field. Maybe you want to take some BP or hang out in the [batting] cage. It is your choice. You get to run the show.”
