Draft prospect throws 4th straight no-hitter

How high can Frank Mozzicato climb?

Mozzicato, who turns 18 in three and a half weeks, tossed his fourth consecutive no-hitter for East Catholic High School of Manchester, Conn., on Monday.

The left-hander was unranked in the Top 150 Draft Prospects list coming into the amateur season but jumped to No. 51 on the Top 200 list released last week. A UConn commit who already features a 60-grade, high-spin curveball, Mozzicato consistently works in the 90s with his fastball after an offseason stint at Cressey Sports Performance brought the offering out of the upper 80s.

Monday's gem included 19 strikeouts, bringing Mozzicato's season total to 101 over 42 innings. He's walked 15 and surrendered two runs -- one earned. A batter last recorded a hit against him on April 26, when he chucked a shutout against his team's crosstown rival, Manchester High.

Another New England kid, Brennen Oxford, threw four straight no-hitters for New Hampshire's Oyster River High in 2017, and Patrick Schuster pulled off the same feat as a Florida high schooler in 2009.
