ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays on Saturday placed right-hander on the family medical emergency list, giving him another day to be with his family after the birth of their second child, but he remains on track to start Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees at Tropicana Field.

Rasmussen had been scheduled to pitch Tuesday night, but his wife, Stevie, went into labor and gave birth to a daughter. The Rays placed Rasmussen on the paternity list on Wednesday but had to remove him from that list on Saturday, as it can only be used for up to three days.

Shane McClanahan had been scheduled to pitch Sunday’s finale, but he will likely be moved back to Tuesday’s series opener against the White Sox in Chicago.

Additionally, the Rays placed starter on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to Friday) with a right elbow strain and recalled right-hander Jesse Scholtens from Triple-A Durham.
