Drew Robinson hits 1st HR in comeback quest

May 12th, 2021

The incredible comeback of Drew Robinson hit another huge milestone on Tuesday. After attempting suicide just more than a year ago, Robinson hit his first home run in his return to professional baseball.

The 29-year-old, who lost his right eye in the attempt, sent a ball into the bullpen in the second inning of Triple-A Sacramento's game against Las Vegas. The River Cats went yard four times in the frame, but the Giants farmhand's dinger might be considered the most poignant.

The homer was Robinson's second hit of the year following a single on Saturday. Even better, those hits -- as well as a double to center in the fifth on Tuesday -- came in his hometown of Las Vegas.

Robinson may have started 0-for-8 with seven strikeouts in his first two games, but the home run he sent out is much bigger than baseball. The outfielder is using his platform to help bring awareness to mental health issues and his comeback attempt continues to be an inspiration to many across the world.
