Baker has talk with Taylor after tough game

Nats manager recalls costly error in '77 World Series

June 25th, 2016

MILWAUKEE -- Nationals outfielder Michael Taylor had a game on Wednesday that he would like to forget. He struck out five times and made an error that helped the Dodgers win, 4-3, in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Later that night, manager Dusty Baker had a heart-to-heart talk with Taylor. The skipper told him he has a lot of ability, was going to start against the Brewers on Friday and that Baker, himself, made a critical error for the Dodgers in Game 3 of the 1977 World Series.
With runners on second and no outs in the first inning, the Yankees's Reggie Jackson singled to Baker in left field. Baker was thinking about trying to thow out Thurman Munson at the plate, but the ball went under Baker's glove for an error, scoring Munson and allowing Jackson to go to second base.
"I told Michael I overran a ball like that in the World Series. I will always remember it," Baker said. "[After that], I was conscious of keeping my head down and seeing the ball to my glove. I want to get [Taylor] back on that horse. I told him he was playing the first game [in Milwaukee] and then he won't play the next two games here."
