WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – was scratched from Sunday’s game with soreness in his left thumb, but the Nationals received good news on the outfielder’s status on Monday.

X-rays on Crews’ thumb were negative, and the outfielder could be back in the lineup on Wednesday or Thursday.

“A little bruising, but the good news is nothing came up on the X-ray,” Crews said. “Spring Training, we don't want to push it and have it be a couple weeks or extend the time I’m out.”

Crews is 1-for-9 with one RBI and two runs scored in four games this spring.

“If it was during the season, he would play,” manager Blake Butera said. “He’s just day-to-day. We have a day off tomorrow, so we’re just going to give it until after the day off.”
