PITTSBURGH -- If it's an Eduardo Rodriguez start day, then the chances are good the Diamondbacks are going to walk away with a win.
Arizona rode another strong outing by the left-hander to a 3-0 win over the Pirates at PNC Park on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Diamondbacks are now 17-3 over Rodriguez's last 20 starts.
More importantly, the win pushed the Diamondbacks into a tie with the Phillies for the second NL Wild Card spot. It also pushed them 1 1/2 games ahead of the Nationals and two games ahead of the Pirates.
Arizona grabbed the early lead when Gabriel Moreno hit a two-run homer in the fourth off Jared Jones.
The Diamondbacks pushed the lead to 3-0 in the sixth when Max Kepler's two-out single to right scored Moreno, who had reached on a walk.
That proved to be more than enough support for Rodriguez, who allowed just five hits over eight scoreless innings.
